MPS, Singaporean OGP exchange experience in developing residential data

The Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security (MPS) and the Singaporean Open Government Products (OGP), a governmental technological agency, had a meeting on May 4 in Hanoi.

Earlier, the Singaporean delegation also visited the National Population Data Center under the Police Department for Administrative Management of Social Order (PDAMSO).

The meeting saw the presence of Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Lieutenant General To Van Hue, Director of the PDAMSO, Deputy Chief of the MPS Office Major General Hoang Anh Tuyen, and leaders of other relevant units under the MPS.

The Singaporean delegation was led by Mr. Hong Yi Li, Director of the OGP and joined by Mr. Ian Tan, Deputy Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Singapore to Vietnam as well as senior experts of the agency.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed in-depth issues and recommended specific approaches to develop population data, electronic identification and authentication.

The Singaporean and Vietnamese experts also discussed solutions to the issues most concerned by Vietnam, such as strategy for big data development, approaches to encourage people to use their cell phones to access their electronic identification, approaches to connect and share data among agencies, digitization of public services and administrative procedures, information security, and personal data protection.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc spoke highly of the valuable experience shared by the Singaporean side at the meeting, especially in building and employing population data. 

The Vietnamese leader hoped that in the coming time, Singapore will continue to support the Vietnamese MPS in developing big data systems as well as protecting information security and safety.

At the meeting, Mr. Hong Yi Li said that experts of the two sides need to discuss in detail the proposals of the MPS regarding the building and management of big data centers, and information security.
