Security for 37th ASEAN Summit must be absolutely ensured: Public Security Deputy Minister

The 2020 ASEAN Subcommittee for Health and Security met on November 6 to review its task performance over the past time and roll out a working plan in preparation for the 37th ASEAN Summit.

Public Security Deputy Minister Sen. Lt. Gen. Bui Van Nam, Member of National 2020 ASEAN Committee and Head of the Subcommittee chaired the meeting. The event also saw the presence of leaders from functional units under the Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Defense Ministry, Health Ministry, Ministry of Information and Communications.

At the meeting, Major General To An Xo, Chief of the Office of the Ministry of Public Security and Standing Deputy Head of the Subcommittee delivered a report on the task performance of the Subcommittee since the 6th meeting in August 2020. According to him, over the past three months, members of the Subcommittee have actively taken measures to ensure absolute security for the online meeting within the framework of the 2020 ASEAN Year, especially the 41st ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), the 53rd ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM) and other important conferences held in Hanoi.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Bui Van Nam emphasized that the 37thASEAN Summit is the most significant event of the 2020 ASEAN Year. Therefore,the Deputy Minister asked all members of the Subcommittee to direct relevant units tomobilize their forces and means to ensure absolute security and safety before, during and after the summit, contributing to the success of the summit.

Deputy Minister Nam requested public security agencies and local units to proactively grasp the situations and promptly advise the National ASEAN 2020 Committee on the preparation and organization of this important event. They should also seriously implement plans to ensure security for the upcoming activities.

The Department of Health Examination and Treatment under the Ministry of Health was asked to ready plans and equipment to take care of health of the delegates to the summit while preventing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuring food hygiene and safety during the event. 

The Security Protection Command under the Ministry of Public Security should closely coordinate with functional agencies of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Government Office, and relevant units to deploy sufficient forces and means to protect security and safety for the summit. 

The Mobile Police Command should continue training its forces and conduct drills in response to security-related scenarios that may happen during the summit. 
The police force of Hanoi was requested to draw out plans to ensure traffic order, safety, and security around the protected areas.
