Vietnam and United States promote cooperation on humanitarian activities

PSNews – Senior Lieutenant General Bui Van Nam, Deputy Minister of Public Security received a delegation of the Defense Prisoner of War/Missing in Action Accounting Agency under the U.S Department of Defence led by its Director Kelly K.McKeague, on March 19, in Hanoi.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Bui Van Nam highly appreciated the growing comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and the U.S in all fields, benefiting both people of the two countries, contributing to maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region.

In particular, the President Donald Trump's official visit to Vietnam and his participation in APEC on November last year in Da Nang was considered a special milestone in the history of the bilateral relations.

General Nam stated that, over the past, Vietnam and the U.S actively cooperated in searching for American servicemen missing in action during the past war in Vietnam. In detail,  the two sides conducted 130 joint search drives in many provinces and cities of Vietnam.

Vietnam’s effective support and close coordination between the two sides in this humanitarian operation have contributed to building trust and strengthening friendly ties between the two countries.

In the coming time, the humanitarian operation will surely face more difficulties in many aspects such as gradual loses of live witnesses and exhaustion of information about cases of U.S servicemen mission in action. Therefore, the Ministry of Public Security hoped that the U.S side will provide initiatives and accelerate the operation for better outcomes.

For his part, Mr. Kelly K.McKeague thanked Deputy Minister Bui Van Nam for the warm welcome. He affirmed that the Defense Prisoner of War/Missing in Action Accounting Agency will closely cooperate with functional agencies of Vietnam in general and the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam in particular in searching the remains of the U.S servicemen as well as in surmounting war consequences in Vietnam.
