Since 2015, Interpol prioritized fights against terrorism, high-tech crimes, organized crimes and emerging crimes (such as human trafficking or drug-related crime).
Delegates of the 86th General Assembly of Interpol spent the first working day reviewing the world’s security situation and discussing new ideas and initiatives on global security to promote cooperation between police forces and private partners on security, especially on police data connection.
The delegates also discussed and analyzed in depth all challenges and difficulties posed by crimes and terrorism, cyber crime, organized and emerging crimes in the world, and proposed solutions to effectively combat those crimes. The General Assembly also agreed on a financial plan of Interpol until 2020, which must ensure openness, transparency, efficiency and balance of budget.
In addition, the General Assembly also discussed the outcomes of prevention and fight against prioritized crimes and implementation of priorities in 2017, as well as set new orientations for 2018.
During the three working days, the General Assembly of Interpol considered the application for membership of the Solomon Islands, the State of Palestine and the Republic of Kosovo.
The participants will also discuss and approve 19 resolutions on Interpol cooperation in prevention and fight against cross-border crime.
At the final session, the General Assembly will elect one vice president and four members of the Executive Committee to replace those ending their term of office in 2017.
On the sidelines of the event, the high-level delegation of Vietnam will have meetings with the Secretary-General and the President of Interpol as well as head delegates of member countries in order to further tighten fine bilateral partnerships with the partners, to seek more support of Interpol and promote cooperation with other countries in crime prevention and fighting in Vietnam.
