At the meeting, the two head delegates agreed that the Vietnam–RoK Bilateral INTERPOL Meeting on an annual and rotational basis holds great significance amid increasingly complex developments in transnational and organized crimes involving both countries.

They affirmed that the mechanism contributes to deepening the bilateral police cooperation in line with the Vietnam-RoK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and promoting peace and stability in the region and the world.

The meeting featured four dialogue sessions, during which delegates of the two sides openly and constructively evaluated outcomes of the bilateral cooperation via INTERPOL mechanisms.

Over the past time, the two sides have actively exchanged criminal information, jointly investigated several cases related to cybercrime, drug trafficking, fraud and intellectual property violations, and closely coordinated in tracking and arresting fugitives wanted by one country fleeing to the other.

Delegates also pointed out existing challenges in their cooperation and discussed approaches to expand the bilateral cooperation in the coming time.

At the end of the meeting, the two sides reached consensus on several key areas of cooperation.

First, the two parties agreed to assist each other more effectively in verifying the information about, arresting and extraditing fugitives wanted by one country hiding in the other, as well as to respond promptly to the request of one country for verification and investigation of criminal cases involving the other country’s citizens.

In addition, the two sides agreed to strengthen information sharing on law violations and crimes committed by citizens of the other country, and enhance mutual support at international law enforcement frameworks, such as INTERPOL, ASEANAPOL and other relevant multilateral forums.

The two sides also consented to establish a direct communication hotline between their INTERPOL Offices, maintain the annual bilateral meeting mechanism and initiate a quarterly working session mechanism between the Korean Police Liaison Office in Vietnam and the Vietnam INTERPOL Office in order to effectively handle issues arising.

The above agreements between the two sides show their growing mutual trust and their willing to strengthen anti-crime cooperation between the law enforcement forces and the two INTERPOL offices of the two countries.
