At the meeting, Deputy Director of the Quang Binh Provincial Police Department Senior Colonel Tran Quang Hieu briefed the guest on the human trafficking situation in Quang Binh province and local police’s effort to fight the crime in the past time. Every year, the Quang Binh Provincial Police Department draws up a plan to implement the Project "International cooperation in preventing and controlling trafficking in persons" to expand international cooperation, enhance information exchange on trafficking in persons as well as to protect victims of trafficking in persons.
Particularly, the Quang Binh Provincial Police Department actively coordinated with relevant agencies and units under the Ministry of Public Security and UK law enforcement agencies to investigate the case of illegal immigration to the UK that occurred on October 23, 2019, verifying information, identity documents biochemical samples of three victims in the case.
Later, the local police also supported the completent agencies of the two countries in completing the legal procedures to bring the victims back to their hometowns and hand them over to their families in the province.
At the meeting, the two sides discussed issues of mutual concern as well as evaluated the results of the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on defense cooperation and anti-trafficking, as well as exchanged approaches to effectively prevent trafficking in person.
The two sides agreed on a number of measures to prevent and fight human trafficking, such as strengthening communication on trafficking in persons and related crimes, creating models and clubs of anti-trafficking in persons, strengthening exchange of information on trafficking in persons and coordinating closely in verifying and supporting of victims of trafficking in persons.
